Diesel fuel ... or ... The
High Cost of Smelling BadMost all of the local Vintage Diesel Combat fliers have about run out of fuel. Many of us have a few cans stashed away but for the most part, it's gone.
Hobby shops usually do not carry the stock, so in previous
years, Mel Lyne has been purchasing it from Red Max and selling it to all.
Things have changed and Mel is no longer doing this. To keep the stink bombs running, those who want fuel will need to pool together and make a buy.
The fuel is best shipped in quart cans from Red Max, the gallon size becomes a hazardous material and adds freight costs.
Here are the prices from Red Max not counting freight, as of 6-11-08.
Sales: (800) 742-8484. Red Max fuel web site
The vintage diesel fuel to request is:
Kerosene - 42%Ether - 30%Castor Oil 23 %-24%Amyl Nitrate - 3%-3 % (or DII)
See link to diesel fuels: Pacific Northwest Vintage Diesel Combat site
4 qt = $59.58 ($14.89 ea qt)
20 qt = $39.72/ per 4 qt ($9.93 ea qt)
(if you beg and plead, they may consider a 10 qt purchase at the reduced rate)
With Freight to Kent Washington a 20 qt purchase would cost:
Fuel $198.60
Freight $43.78
Total $242.38 ($12.12 ea quart, freight added)
If you are interested in purchasing the fuel, the best purchase is to make a 20 qt purchase, I can store the fuel at Jeff's for a short time, and bring it to the Diesel Mania contest in Arlington (July 19th) for you to pick up. Let me know if there is a shipment coming this way. This is a one-time offer to receive, store and deliver fuel, so I would take advantage of it if you need fuel.
Many flyers in B.C .have the foul little one lung beasties so this is a chance to replenish supplies and to come to a great picnic on the 19th of July. See Where the Action Is for details.
After the duel in the sun (NWR) between The Beavers, Bod Busters, and Lone Wolf Bob Smith,
I would imagine there is some interest in getting more fuel.
Send the purchased fuel to:
