Oregon fliers have a cool time in Salem

Fall Finale Fun Fly, Bill Riegel Model Airpark, Salem, Ore., Oct. 31, 2026

It was a cool foggy day in much of Western Oregon but the conditions were okay at the Salem Airport flying site. The forecasted temperature of 50 degrees failed to materialize, but the air was very calm for most of the day.

The flying was a good mix of stunt and sport types. Also flown were a couple of throttled foamies, a carrier plane, and an autogyro thrown in for good measure.

Around noon there was a hot chili lunch provided which helped take off the chill.

There were plenty of goods given away as door prizes. There were kits, engines, plenty of accessories and some recycled planes. Everyone got two trips to the prize table.

Attendees were: Craig Bartlett, Mark Crouse, Mark Cunningham, Roy DeCamara, Jerry Eichten, Mike Hazel, Dave LaFever, John Lickley, Lynette Lickley, Leighton Mangels, Will Naemura, Doug Powers, Mark Schluter, Jess Walls.

The event was hosted by the Western Oregon Control Line Flyers.

Among the door prizes were these planes from the fleet of Don Chandler.
